By Sarah F. Sullivan Join local musician Ember Schrag at the Zoo Bar on June 26th to celebrate the release of her debut album. The music industry has always been a tough one to navigate and the making of A Cruel, Cruel Woman was no exception.
For over four years, the life of the album hung in the balance as recording engineers gave up their careers to become orthodontists and multiple studios went out of business. However, the album survived and will be released by Lincoln’s Lone Prairie Records.
Ember Schrag has become a true asset to the Lincoln music scene over the years. A long-time performer, Schrag formed multiple showcases for Lincoln musicians, including the popular “Songwriter Power Ranger” series. The series, which features a mix of local and out-of-town acts with varying levels of experience, was initially held at Box Awesome. Now the showcase is experiencing some logistical changes, including a new time (6:30-9PM) and a new home at Lincoln’s newest venue, the Bourbon Theatre (1415 O Street) starting June 29th.
While juggling multiple showcases, a full performance schedule and a beautiful 18-month-old baby girl, the fact that Schrag succeeded in finishing A Cruel, Cruel Woman is a feat in and of itself. However, you do what you must in order to do what you love. And anyone who’s heard Schrag perform can tell that music is her passion.
