A collaboration of Clawfoot House and the UNL Women’s Center, these open-to-the-public events are part of Women’s Week, an annual series of events at UNL since 1978 which celebrates women's accomplishments towards gender equity, acknowledges the struggles they still face, and recognizes women's contributions at UNL and in the community.
Denio's visit to Lincoln encompasses three events: the Clawfoot Salon on March 10 and a luncheon lecture and evening performance on March 11. These events are made possible by the support of the Berman Music Foundation.
The Clawfoot Salon is a working group and educational series for female musicians and artists. On March 10, this special edition of the Salon will take place at the Nebraska Union on 1400 R St. at 7 p.m. The room will be posted that day. Participants are invited to bring their instruments along. After a short reading by poet and filmmaker Sandra Hochman, the salon will consist of a jam, a time to share new work, and Denio's presentation.
On March 11, Denio's leadership luncheon presentation on Music and Social Change will take place at the Nebraska Union (room will be posted) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a free vegetarian wrap from Maggie's for those who call the UNL Women's Center (472-2597) in advance.
The evening performance featuring Amy Denio, The New Music Agency, and Seeded Plain will begin at 9 pm on March 11, at Clawfoot House on 1042 F St. Admission is $7 at the door.
As a solo artist and member of over a dozen bands—including Tone Dogs, Kultur Shock, Die Resonanz Stanonczi and the Tiptons Sax Quartet—Denio has performed well over 1000 shows all over the globe. Since her first cassette release, No Bones, in 1986 on her own label Spoot Music, Denio has released over 35 albums, solo and with an array of international musicians, including Fred Frith and Pauline Oliveros. Denio has been commissioned to compose several film and dance scores and is a regular collaborator with the Pat Graney Dance Company, the David Dorfman Dance Company and Victoria Marks.
Denio's performances and presentations are just one part of the variety of events that will take place during UNL's Women's Week from March 8-12.
