Over the last week or so, downtown Lincoln has been decorated with numerous sidewalk surprises: bright, detailed chalk drawings promoting the “Art of Rock” festival.
This Saturday, the rock of both roll fame and the more common cement variety will be celebrated in the first annual festival, hosted by the Northeast Family Center’s Academy of Rock program.
“It’s going to be wild,” said Nick Tarlowski, who’s been an instructor with the Academy of Rock since it first started five years ago. “It’s just fun for everybody.”
The event begins at noon on Friday, and will feature a rock fashion show, rockstar makeovers, karaoke and air guitar, door prizes, sidewalk chalk and more, said program director and event organizer Jason Schmit. It will encompass 14th Street from O Street to P Street, with events and concerts held at the Zoo Bar, Duffy’s Tavern and the Bourbon Theatre, as well.
